PEER LEADER

A mentor is defined as a knowledgeable and experienced guide, a trusted ally and advocate, and a caring role model. TNHS Peer Leaders provide support in a classroom that allows them to bring their strongest knowledge to our school community.  Students will, upon completion of modules and growth opportunities.

GENERAL LEADER

Supporting, caring, and providing assistance to our staff at TNHS is an opportunity our 12th grade students can be a part of during their senior year. This course will allow students to gain knowledge and soft skills in several different areas. A wonderful way to boost a resume and gain work experience. This is a non-credit bearing course.

YEARBOOK

Discover your passion of CREATing multimedia experiences that celebrate the rituals, traditions, and experiences at Thomas Nelson. You will support and NRGize our school community through video and multimedia projects, logo and brand development, and social media content creation.

SOC LEADERS

If you are a student organization LEADER this class is for you! Student Organization LEADERs will serve as a SO General LEADER with their organization's sponsor during one class period. One day each week the SOC seminar will convene in the SOC LEADERship Center to collaborate on initiatives. Learn to LEAD by CARing, CONNECTing, and CREATing with our school community.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Students with a passion to CREATE a self-driven course culminating in a form of Community Contribution for our school or local community. Project Waldo, Gensanity Podcast, The Generals LEAD virtual Newspaper, Athletic & Community Affairs Director and more have all been student CREATEd products.

AP PSYCHOLOGY

The AP Psychology course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. While considering the psychologists and studies that have shaped the field, students explore and apply psychological theories, key concepts, and phenomena associated with such topics as the biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, learning and cognition, motivation, developmental psychology, testing and individual differences, treatments of psychological disorders, and social psychology. Throughout the course, students employ psychological research methods, including ethical considerations, as they use the scientific method, evaluate claims and evidence, and effectively communicate ideas. College credit is earned with a qualifying score on an AP exam. This is an elective credit.

Yeti 401: Leadership Dynamics

Students will gain knowledge of life skills through various lessons and activities that will enable them to LEARN and Grow effectively with the demands and challenges of life outside of high school.,

HOUSE STEWARD

The purpose of the House Stewards is to empower students to leverage the unique and diverse gifts of our houses, connect with leaders and students to care for our community, and to create the future or our community together.

1 Credit, Grades 9-12

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN (CAD)

Students will explore the basics of drafting including: Reading tape measure/ruler, fractions to decimals, scale, dimensioning, title blocks, line types, multiview drawings, isometric vs. orthographic, symbols, concept sketches, section views, & Cartesian coordinates. Students will create hand drawn blueprints and technical drawings. along with CAD drawings.  The class culminates with a large CAD project of the students' choosing.

Principles of Engineering (POE)

Year 2 Engineering students engage in new concepts and build upon their skills and knowledge from the previous class.  Students will utilize Project Lead The Way to gain exposure to engineering concepts that include: Mechanical Design, Sustainable Design & Infrastructure, and Energy In Action.  Students will also engage with Community Partners to complete projects that have ties to real world issues and needs.  Students will also be exposed to research & development, manufacturing, marketing, and finance as they work with school based businesses to create and sell products.

STLP

This is a hands-on course in which students will serve our Thomas Nelson community by learning to maintain, develop, and implement technology in the classroom. Students learn to utilize an engineering design process to solve authentic problems while specializing in a track such as robotics, tech repair, 3D Design, or 2D Design. Students are also included in the state-wide Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) by participating in Regional, State & National competitions as part of the required coursework. CREATIVE WRITING

Students will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, exploring the essential elements of plot, character development, and setting. Through a variety of writing exercises and projects, they will create engaging narratives that captivate readers. Students will also experiment with different poetic forms, uncovering the beauty of language and rhythm. From free verse to traditional forms, students will develop a poetic toolkit to convey emotions, observations, and reflections.
