PERFORMING ARTS
GENERAL BAND
This course is designed as a prerequisite for any students that have no prior band experience before coming to TNHS. Or as a supplement to a student in Concert Band and would like to further their studies.
Students can learn new instruments or can learn marching band music or color guard skills. This course is tailored to the individual student’s needs as they excavate their gifts.

SYMPHONIC BAND
Courses in Concert Band are designed to promote students' playing technique for brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, and cover a variety of music styles primarily for concert performances.
Concert band courses are offered on multiple skill levels to accommodate proficiency and include instruction at novice, intermediate, or advanced levels.
Concert band is Co-curricular meaning that performances and trips mainly take place during after school hours and participation in performances is mandatory to maintain membership within this group.

INTRO TO GUITAR
Students explore the fundamentals and basics of music and guitar-playing techniques, such as strumming and chords. Formal and informal performances are included as part of the instructional program as well as experiences in creating and responding to music. These courses teach students the appropriate care, handling, and maintenance of musical instruments.

CONCERT CHOIR
Students develop vocal skills in the context of a large choral ensemble as a means to study and perform a variety of styles. Critical analysis and problem solving, collaboration, and musical skills and understandings are developed through rehearsal and performance experiences, and/or creating and performing students’ own compositions.

MUSICAL THEATER
Musical Theatre class is an exploration of all things Musical Theater. Students will study the work of the actor/singer/dancer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. Students will prepare and present as soloists as well as members of small groups and larger ensembles. Students will also assist in the performance and technical aspects of the spring show.

SHOW CHOIR
Students will engage in ensemble singing that focuses on vocal skills and technique, specifically in the styles of classic and contemporary popular music, musical theater, vocal jazz, and collegiate-style a cappella. Students considering participation in the musical theatre extracurricular programs, are highly encouraged to be in this course to help refine vocal skills to strengthen musical productions.

MUSIC THEORY
As students explore the fundamentals of vocal and instrumental music, they will learn basics of music theory. Creative directing will occur individually as well as one-on-one lessons with a trained leader as they study instruments and music they are passionate about. Students will have the opportunity to apply music theory concepts to the music they are studying.

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
Percussion ensemble focuses on the wide variety of percussion repertoire and styles for the diverse family of percussion instruments. Music could include Afro-Cuban, African, contemporary classical, and experimental genres.
